BA SOLO EXHIBITION HYDRA

BRATSERA HOTEL, Hydra Island, Greece

Ba’s third exhibition of the year, was displayed on Hydra Island, Greece. It included new handmade additions that serve as both floor rugs and tapestries. The show was held at the Bratsera Hotel, an 1860s sponge factory that has been charmingly restored into one of the more unique boutique hotels in Greece.

The works were exhibited in the historic room, where sponges were prepared for commercial use, boasting original architectural features.

The designs @ba_atelier, are based on the artist's (Salma Barakat) analogue collages, translated into handwoven rugs produced in Egypt. The initial collages were displayed alongside tapestries to show the design process, presented as signed, limited edition art prints on Japanese handmade Tesuki-Washi Fine Art paper.

A short video reel, projected on a stone wall, depicted Ba’s artworks being handwoven in Atfeeh village. Salma collaborates closely with the weavers, who work in a well-run, purpose-built workshop operated by a local NGO charity.
